Ming Teppanyaki ~ SS2, PJ

Ming Teppanyaki is a popular 'Taiwanese-styled teppanyaki' restaurant in PJ and I've never attempted to visit as it's always full and I have no patience to wait in line for a table.

The opportunity to visit them cam recently after the lunch hour rush (after 2pm) and was I delighted to discover that their lunch menu runs from 12-5pm! The lunch menu comprises of proteins with a choice of noodles or rice which comes with 2 small sides and miso soup.

Pictured is their pork patty set with noodles. I usually have issues with pork patties as they turn out 'too porky' but these were nothing like that! These are likely made using a mixture of minced pork and cured meat which results in a delicious salty and sweet 'bacon-y'-flavored pork patty.

The noodles are plainly tossed with black and soy sauce plus some lard which I didn't enjoy but the noodle texture is bouncy and pleasant.

Overall a really good meal.

Mamalee's Nasi Lemak ~ Damansara Uptown

In the 'nasi lemak war' of Damansara Uptown, one nasi lemak has been my constant for having excellent fried chicken with an equally excellent buttermilk sauce made extra nice with a spicy version.

Mamalee's signature is completing their nasi lemak with whole chicken legs and a variety of sauces, the most popular being their buttermilk and salted egg sauce. It definitely sets them apart from the traditional nasi lemak and lauk style but their stir fried vegetables and other Penang Nyonya dishes are not too shabby either.

There are also options for prawns or squid with a sauce of choice and recently I found out their squid is freshly fried calamari. Not the norm but still, very delicious.

Luncheon meat meals @ Wonderful Mondays ~ SS2, PJ

I have tried to like canned luncheon meat but the block of salty meat has never really appealed to me until this visit to Wonderful Mondays.

The 3 types of luncheon meat here - chicken, beef & fish is served with a sauce of your choice out of 15 options alongside a carb of your choice. For carbs, there's rice, dry or soup ramen, porridge and even western choices of a burger, sandwich, croissant or hotdog.

My signature sauced beef luncheon meat with ramen was delicious! Firstly, the luncheon meat wasn't the sodium laden kind and tasted very much like the actual meat. Secondly, serving it with a choice of sauce was interesting and the sauces do not to distract you from the meat flavor. Finally, the ramen texture was just right and the light garlic oil made it a good pair with the tasty meat. The overall dish was an enjoyable combination of a fulfilling but not jelak lunch.

I also ordered a side of chicken luncheon meat nuggets with salted egg sauce. It tasted more like a creamy tumeric sauce but it wasn't unpleasant.

Makan partner ordered a whole leg of ayam goreng classic and it came piping hot, juicy and crispy. The sides of beef rendang was slightly sweet but amazingly tender. The acar was alright.

Overall, Wonderful Mondays was a delightful eating experience. Plus point is that they're Muslim friendly so everyone can enjoy luncheon meat. Now if only they could do something about the ventilation of the place...

Wun Nam Homemade Recipe ~ Damansara Perdana, PJ

Consistent dai chau dishes (and more) with food serving at the speed of light, Wan Num may seem like every other neighborhood Chinese restaurant but the food quality is so much more than that.

.

Portions are great for the price paid for the dai chau dishes and they do have banquet-level dishes with a specialty in sturgeon dishes. I've never tried any of the sturgeon dishes but there's a whole documentary dedicated to it that you can search online. It's very common to see whole groups of small offices on weekdays heading up to their 2nd floor.

Honkai Star Rail Collab Event ~ La Juiceria, Menara Hap Seng 2, Kuala Lumpur

The very first Honkai Star Rail Collab Event has arrived in Malaysia, partnering with La Juiceria, Menara Hap Seng 2 for a Honkai Star Rail-themed cafe!

This was my first themed-cafe experience outside of Japan and it was a great experience for my 2.30pm weekday slot.

You may prebook a slot with your meals on the La Juiceria Collab Event website here and there are 3 meal combos plus extra charge add-ons to choose from.

Combo C
Wild Herbal Soup (Spirulina Banana Chia bowl)

Combo C
Fruitwood-grilled Shantak Moa Drumettes was hard and cold

In the background:
Combo B
Grande Rejuvepill were warm and crispy sweet potato balls

Combo B
Comfort Food aka Soup Noodles
This was my favorite dish - flavorful and served hot.

Combo A
Cosmic Fried Rice

Combo A
Snapper Jam Appetizer

From left:
Combo B: Energy Drink (Passion fruit mango?)
Combo A: Punitive Energy Drink (Lavender something)
Combo C: Vomit Inducing Agent (Blue Pea Flower Mint Lemonade)
Add-on item: Steamed Puffergoat Milk (Pudding!)

The themed-cafe was beautifully decorated with lots of character standees, stickers for the tables, walls & counters plus game trauma-inducing BGM playing for the ultimate game feel though boss-level music playing in the background while you're eating may be distressing!

This standee of Jing Liu is particularly popular as she's the newest character released.

On the outside of the cafe is the merchandise area plus the lucky draw activity area

By completing a social media activity, diners are entitled to a in-game freebie, a holographic commerative ticket, a postcard and a lucky draw of the game mascot button badge.

II was unlucky for the button badge but still went home with a bunch of freebies that came with the meal combo - a table mat, coaster, food deco pieces, cup holder and meal voucher.

The kind staff were also accommodating when I requested for a stamp of the game logo and the receipt for merchandise purchases has a cute game mascot illustration. The attention to detail made the experience an enjoyable and immersive one.

There are also cute freebies for purchases of over RM30 which likely will not be available for future collab events.

The event will be happening till 14th November with additional activities
on the weekend slots - come by for a fun themed-cafe experience!

Restaurant TST (formerly Tien Sun Tien) ~ Taman Tun Perak, Cheras

My family's favorite and regular 'dai chau' restaurant moved deeper into the depths of Cheras and for a while, we were left without a place to eat out until... recently, it was tracked down and we're now back on our regular eating schedule!

Tien Sun Tien Restaurant or now known as TST Restaurant was previously located in Taman Connaught and their signature dishes include steamed fish (pictured is a talapia in asam style), claypot prawns with glass noodles and stir-fried four angle beans with lotus root and dried shrimp (not pictured).

Now they've added mutton, beef and squid dishes to their menu, all of which are well done at affordable prices. For reference, their claypot prawns with 6 fresh large prawns and plenty of glass noodles to go around is priced at RM50 and their food is served incredibly fast.

Normally, the first dish lands on the table within 10-15 minutes of ordering. That's considered lighting speed for a 'dai chau' restaurant with estimated 40 tables and a 50 dish (also an estimate!) menu. They're also consistent with their quality and flavor. It's no wonder that it's usually full by 6.30pm so be sure to come early or risk waiting for a table.

Bai Wei Mini Bowl ~ Puchong

Bai Wei Mini Bowl is a '100 flavors' pick and mix Sichuan dishes concept that's been popping up everywhere - think of it as Sichuan zhap fan.

As the name implies, the variety is massive with mini portions of meat, vegetable, egg, tofu and soup dishes to choose from including otherwise usually large sharing portions of Sichuan boiled fish and Sichuan mala chicken (辣子鸡) and of course, typical Sichuan dishes like shredded potatoes, Mapo tofu, Sichuan fish sauce eggplant (鱼香茄子) and red braised pork (红烧肉).

Among two people, our order of mapo tofu, stir fried cabbage, Sichuan fish sauce eggplant, Sichuan boiled fish and red braised pork was of course too many dishes but everything was tasty and we ended up finishing everything.

It's a great concept for those who like variety like me and the fact that it's open 24 hours is great for early birds and night owls alike.
