Rather recently opened in Citta Mall, Gajah Mada by The Majapahit offers Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese & Indonesia cuisine. Interestingly, it draws its name from the famous military leader and Prime Minister of the Majapahit empire, Gajah Mada.

For drinks, we had a Es Kelapa Muda Jeruk and Iced Thai Milk Tea. The coconut and orange juice was fresh but there were no prominent coconut flavor, it tasted only of orange. The Thai milk tea was decent.

To eat, a Ayam Cabe Ijo, a Ayam Gulai Padang and a Sambal Terung Berlado.

The Ayam Cabe Ijo had a roughly pounded green chilli sambal on steamed chicken breast. The chicken breast very well done - flavorful, tender and moist. The sambal is definitely not for the faint hearted - it was so spicy that the back of my head was sweating! Despite the spiciness, it was very tasty, fragrant and didn't have the raw flavor that usually comes with a pounded sambal.

All the personal sets come with steamed rice, condiments and sides. I especially loved the sambal kering tempeh. It is exactly like the one my mum makes (which is in the style made by one of our Indonesian maids). The corn fritters had a nice crust and a fluffy inside. The portion of the dish was very filling and satisfying. Top up RM1.50 to get a whole chicken leg instead of a chicken breast.

The Ayam Gulai Padang was rich in spices with a strong coconut milk flavor. There was a lot of curry to go around, it makes you want to eat a lot of rice. The sides vary depending on the cuisine of the set you pick but we happened to have the same.

The Sambal Terong Berlado had a kicap lemak like flavor and tasted more of kicap than sambal but was still enjoyable. The brinjal was tender and well done.

Food was impressive here and is definitely worth trying. For those with a family of picky eaters, there's a good variety of dishes from different cuisines here so there would be something for everyone. They have private areas for large parties as well.

I am now rather curious to try their other dishes and dining at The Majapahit too one day. Till then!
